Met Sharad - Propreitor of Food King

For the uninitiated, he is an ambitious Chennai guy who fought against a lot of odds and made it to IIM Ahmedabad and passed out in 2006 ... Did not follow the conventional placement route and has set up his own Food and Beverages unit ... called "Food King" ...

The name of Sharad gets quoted in our Economics class ... Our prof explained the concept of "Opportunity cost" citing him as an example ... Visualize this, at the age of 26 or 27 u do something which gets quoted as an example in a class of 68 in a b-school ... Now, that IS something ...

Apart from the many outlets he is operating, he has a small one within the IIM-A campus ... I heard that he frequents the outlet every now and then ... Wanted to meet him ... Could not for a long time ... Finally bumped into him a week ago ...

Should I call it Charisma ?!? Is this the entrepreneurial charisma that people talk about ... I do not know ... But, there is something about his mannerism which made us (v were a group of 3 guys who met him) look upon him ... I am not able to get hold of a good word to describe that characteristic ... Limited by my (limited) vocab ;-)))

It was only a short conversation that we had ... Within which there were so many things he talked about ... Breakeven point ... different types .. Variable cost breakeven, Fixed cost breakeven, Management breakeven, day to day factors which directly influence business, short term challenges, staffing issues, infrastructure issues ...

BOY ... It was a 5 minute field trip where v saw class room fundaes getting implemented in real life ...

Got a sense why employers / entres are anyday revered much more than employees ... Kithna fight maarna padthaa hai entre's ko ...

There might have been other entre's who passed out of this place ... what makes Sharad so special .. I think it is the physical proximity ... When an outlet of his is within the campus, how can one talk about a Jerry Rao before talking about Sharad ... In a way, that by itself is a lot of unpaid publicity that Food King has access to and will have access to in the future too ... amongst a group of people who might be given the leeway to take decisions in the firms that they work for ...(Now, I do not want to sound like a heartless analyser here) ...

I am sure he will make it big ... I hope it inspires confidence amongst students to follow the path that less trodden entre path ...
