Reached Ahmedabad

Am not that great in writing a travelogue (is the spelling right, in the first place ?!?) or describing a new place ... Have rarely done it before ... Let me try ...

Train journey : was pretty boring .... I was not comfortable with the cold temperature in the 3rd AC compartment ... Every now and then, I would come to the non-air-conditioned-wash-basin area along with my book / paper and spend hours together there only !!!

Hostel : is pretty good .... It is a 10 feet by 10 feet square room ... well constructed ... spacious .... with lots of cup boards .... well utilised shelf space ... There are 23 dormitories ... Am in Dormitory 22 .... My dormitory is in the new campus and is one of the newly constructed ones ... The new campus is on the other side of the road and connected with the old campus through a private subway ....

Mess : is in the old campus ... one single mess for all the dormitories ... food is pretty good ... one sad thing is that my mess fees is applicable only after July 1st ... which means that I have to pay for all 3 meals of the day till then ;-( sob ... sob ;-((

People : 275 odd students in first year .... Meeting new faces on almost a daily basis ... Quite a big Tamil crowd out here ... The language most oft spoken among the general crowd is (understandably) Hindi ... Am able to manage ... I suppose my Hindi will become better over time ...

Place : HOT !!! If there is one word which describes how I feel upon coming to IIM Ahmedabad, it is : T-H-I-R-S-T-Y !!! Downing litres and litres of water and do not know where it goes !!! No humidity out here and hence there is no sweat ... But, there is a hot "anal kaathu" at all times of the day .....

But, inspite of all this, I am enjoying this weather ... Am absolutely "at home" with this ... None of the guys are !

The rainy season is just around the corner ... any time now ... and it rains cats and dogs ... they say that the entire campus will be in a submerged status during the rains !!!

My toughest time is going to winter ;-(((((

Studies : Registration process is complete .... It was a very well planned affair ... no big hassles ..... They have loaded me with about 4 KG of study material just for the 1st term .... Another thing about the study plan is that it is very very very organized .... They have given a planner which says what exactly I will be doing over the next 1 year .... Amazingly well planned ...

Loan : Process was very very simple ... Got it from SBI ... The entire process would have taken 3 hours and at the end of it, I had a DD for the 1st term fees .... Opened a savings account with the same bank ...

Course : Wait till the pressure tap is opened ... Not a long wait ... I foresee it starting from this saturday itself ...

Rest in next !!!

Anony,

Thank you '....

Yadhvi,

Naan nallavan ellaam kedayaadhu ... i am oblivious of the surroundings of the college ... the city around us ... everything is available in the campus and there is no need to go out ... apart from the climate, there is nothing to remind that am in Gujarat ... That should explain my lack of knowledge about Gujju femmes ....

Kripa,

talking only about "water" ... mmm ... i can only talk ;-( ... this state being the birthplace of Gandhi is a dry state ... no liquor shops ... only a grey market is thriving ...

Anony,

Oct 27th 2005 was the day when Chennai had TORRENTIAL rains for 2 continuous days ... i was struck in office for 2 days ... @ the end of the ordeal, i walked from T. Nagar to Koyambedu ... a distance of 7 kilometers ... while it was pouring ... because no autos / buses were in sight ... Kripa was mentioning only about that ...

You sure must be an innovative person ....

Vatsa/Ding,

Thanks guys ... getting used to this place @ a rapid pace ... and i do not have a choice about the pace ;-)

Aravindh,

Ada paavi ... un nakkalukku oru alavae illayaa ... can somebody save the world from this guy, please ?!?

Seetha Anna,

Thank u !

Natesan Nagar Anna,

Thank u ... Yup ... I do miss my brother - my Nanda - my Bullet ...

Few of my seniors have one here ... The other day I saw one riding by ... Mesmerised for a moment ... Relived the magical moments hearing JUST the thumping of the bike on a lonely highway ...

Jolted back to reality ... continued walked towards my dorm ....
